THE FORCE AWAKENS.

I can’t believe that Star Wars Episode VII hasn’t even been out for 3 weeks.

I feel like it has been part of me and of the movie universe forever.

I loved it.

I love it.

Upon the first watch (a special screening on the Thursday before it came out) a bunch of good emotions were brought up in me.

I felt hope in humanity, a conviction that, yes ,things and people could be good. A motivation to do something about the things I care about. An urge to write, draw, make playlists, create. My imagination has been flying on thoughts of Star Wars. Situations with the characters, what could happen if I was the universe.

I mean, that’s why I love Star Wars. There is something essential. Something about it that I can identify with. A home in this vast universe that doesn’t seem to end in possibilities of being explored. There’s always something new to find in this world and cool new things too.

If a movie can inspire me and motivate me while making me fall in love with charming, handsome, space pilots (POE DAMERON, MARRY), it’s all good to me.

Squad.

I have been hype about Suicide Squad for about a year now.

I’d been doing pretty good at commenting on every single little rumour or picture that came out of the production but then I stopped using my blog and fell behind.

It’s just that there are so many things about this movie I wanna talk about.

Like, the publicity. The publicity has been so good! If I ever make a movie I want the team behind this. They have gotten so much free publicity already, like, they’re been so smart. Saying that they had psychiatrists on the set (whether or not it’s true) made the news of movie sites. So did Jared Leto’s supposed strange behaviour then you had Will Smith saying that he had never actually “met” Jared Leto.

The summer was non-stop Squad news. Every week it was something new and strange that came out of the movie.

Ohhh, and the “leaked” trailer that they said they weren’t going to release but they did since someone put it online. And have zero security during filming so that a bunch of footage made it out online.

These guys have been really smart at promoting the movie. By the time actual ads and posters come out a lot of people (that wouldn’t have been interested) are already going to know what this is. Which is really important for this movie because a lot of the characters have not been in movies before.

I’m just really impressed with how they have played it.

And then there’s the Joker.

I KNOW THERE ARE A BUNCH MORE CHARACTERS IN THIS AND THEY ARE ONES WE HAVEN’T SEEN BEFORE AND THEY ARE NOT GETTING THEIR DUE ATTENTION SO PLEASE EXCUSE ME FOR TALKING ABOUT JOKER LETO.

Anyway.

We saw the initial reaction (more like, rejection!) to this Joker. People were not really into the grills and the “Damaged”. I was really excited because I thought they might play it safe and go for a Heath Ledger-ish Joker, you know, to make sure people will like it. But this was the opposite. Friggin’ out there and off the walls and without shirt and tacky as hell. I was watching Innerspace and Ajay Fry said that Heath ledger’s Joker is more closed up in his physicality but this Joker is different that he’s kind of opened up, taking up space. I thought that was a good description (maybe my paraphrasing is not the best).

(And I just love that the whole Squad’s aesthetic is kinda goth and tacky)

But then with another Batman vs Superman trailer came fan theories and these were great theories. People started asking if maybe this Joker was Robin before. Was he Red Hood? Is he taunting Batman? Did this Joker kill Robin? Does this Joker look so different because he’s actually a messed up Robin?

And I think a lot of the speculation came out of the fact that this Joker looks the way that he does. People are trying to understand why the grills, why the tattoos. It’s not something given but something to figure out and I love it!!! I love that there is something to ask, something about this Joker that doesn’t quite fit and that we will have to wait and see.

I hope that it is someone close to Batman and that it’s sort of Bruce’s faultĀ  he got this way because that would be very interesting. I preferred that Heath Ledger’s Joker didn’t have a back story because I thought it worked really well with the character to be unknown but for this Joker I really do want to know. I want explanations and I can’t wait to get them.

THIS MOVIE HAS ME THINKING ALREADY.
